Suddenly, thanks to those shifting clock hands, our early-evening walk with the dogs has to be done in fading light. For a few weeks we'll race after work to get outside before the sun drops, but basically we're into the dark bit of the dog-walking year.

I can also recommend having one of those adjustable LED lamps attached to an elastic headband so you can be hands free - carrying a torch as well as handling a dog can get pretty fiddly. (And these head-torches have a surprising number of uses around the home.)
I also feel sorry for my poor, low-to-the-ground, dark-coloured dogs: they've been stepped on a few times by their well-meaning but large-footed human companions. My partner came across some flashing LED lights that can be hung from the leash, and these have saved a lot of canine pain.
