Aging baby boomers are going to cause a huge shift
Aging baby boomers are going to cause a huge shift in direction for health-care systems, predicts the chair of the Health P.E.I. board of directors, Leo Steven.
“The biggest challenge is going to be in dementia and Alzheimer’s, in terms of cost,” he said, suggesting they will surpass even the costs associated with heart disease and cancer treatment.Men's & Women's Discount sunglasses under $20.
Steven acknowledged people often don’t contemplate the aging process until they reach middle age, but he said the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s can be delayed through lifestyle changes.
“I’m hearing more and more people saying an aging strategy is going to be as important as a cancer strategy, as an emergency strategy, as a heart strategy,” Steven commented.
Ten of Health P.E.I.’s board of directors were in Mill River this week for the second in a series of four health expos being held across P.E.I.
The expos, explained Dr. Kinsey Smith, chair of the board’s Public Engagement Task Force, are a first step in helping to educate the public about the board and it’s one integrated Island health-care system, both of which are in their first year of existence.
He said they also serve as an opportunity for board members to hear the public’s health-care concerns and what they see as the priorities in health care.Largest selection of hats Caps and Berets.
